T-minus 4 Weeks

The starting whistle for the 2015 London Marathon will blow at 10:10am on Sunday 26 April. Or it’s a gun they fire, or a klaxon that sounds, or someone drops a handkerchief… I’m not sure how it starts, but I know when it starts: precisely four weeks from the publication of this blogpost. And I also know this: I’ll be there, nervous, excited, the number 4011 pinned to my chest, ready to take on a new challenge.

Back in October I wrote about how and why I got into this in the first place. With 28 days to go I’m posting this as a pretty naked appeal for your help. Training has been hard work, and the most important thing in pulling me through it has been the kindness and support of my girlfriend — also running her first marathon — and of my friends & family. This is as good a place as any to say that there is no way I would have come this far without your encouragement, so thank you all.

We’re now in the home stretch, and I’m posting this as a reminder that when I lace up my shoes four Sundays from now I’m doing it partly for myself, yes, but also for two charities. If you’d like to learn more and maybe help me help them, please click on over to the fundraising page. [Update: link removed now that the event is over.]

Thank you for your support. There’s still a lot of work to do, but you’re helping make it so worthwhile.
